As Co-Director of "The Temple of the Midnight Sun," I played a pivotal role in guiding a team of passionate creators through the development of an immersive escape room experience at UCF. Set against the backdrop of ancient mysteries, this adventure challenged over 140 participants to unravel its secrets within the constraints of budget, time, and space.
Embark on an exhilarating journey with Sir Preston Eliss and his trusted assistant, Quinn, as they invite you to delve into the mysteries of "The Temple of the Midnight Sun." This daring escape room adventure unfolds amidst the rare convergence of a solar and lunar eclipse at midnight, revealing a perilous temple teeming with hidden treasures.
As brave explorers, your mission is clear: navigate through intricate puzzles and challenges to unearth as much treasure as you can before time runs out. Each solved puzzle brings you closer to collecting valuable prizes, intensifying the thrill as the temple gradually closes in around you.
Some of my responsibilities included:
Orchestrated team leadership opportunities and coordinated build schedules
Delegated tasks and responsibilities among team members
Led the conceptualization and development of the storyline and narrative elements
Animated special effects and ensured visual consistency throughout the escape room
Coordinated and assisted in the fabrication of intricate set designs
Designed challenging and creative puzzles for players to solve
Created hints and clues to guide players through the game effectively
Developed a comprehensive training protocol for team members to ensure a consistent guest experience
I curated a special folder containing Quinn's extensive notes on the temple's history and secrets. This collection not only offered valuable hints but also clever misdirection to heighten the challenge of our puzzles. Guests were thus encouraged to delve deeper into the mysteries of the temple, enhancing their overall experience with layers of intrigue and discovery.
I led the creation of a hand-drawn animation showing a wall crumbling. This animation was projected in the final room to amp up the excitement as guests tried to escape in time. Using a beginner-friendly 2D style made it immersive and fit well with the ancient temple theme, adding to the thrill and fun for our players. Our sound designer created special sound effects to enhance this effect.
I facilitated the coordination of our tech team's creation of a dedicated website and programming of modes for our tech puzzles. Additionally, I organized training sessions where team members learned to use the software effectively, solve all puzzles, and deliver an engaging experience to our guests. This technological integration not only enriched the complexity of our puzzles but also guaranteed a smooth and enjoyable adventure for all participants.
